TARP - Teaching Artist in Residence Program
Presented by Kickstart Arts
Kickstart Arts presents their Teaching Artist in Residence Program (TARP) in September 2012, offering a range of different art workshops in their large new space in St. Johns Park in New Town.
I provided a Illustrative Map-Making workshop in November; Mapping Your World:
'This specific workshop for primary school artists, aged 8-12 years, will inspire them to explore new worlds through map-making. By using techniques such as drawing, ink, collage, paint and printing, kids will make their own unique (illustrated) maps exploring what a 'sense of place' means to them. The workshops will look at examples of traditional maps, different illustrated maps as well as visual artists who are inspired by ma-making.
Kids will discover what fascinates them about a place; is it the memory, experiences or maybe the history? BY making a map kids not only identify the essence of what is meaningful to a place for them, but also learn how to visualize their world creatively.'
After the last workshop we held a little party, exhibiting all maps with drinks and nibbles. One of the students made a BEAUTIFUL chocolate Map Cake!
